The Projeto Atlantis was created in March 1995, in order to conduct research and conservation of cetaceans (group where whales, dolphins and porpoises are included) along São Paulo southern and Paraná northern coasts, Brazil.
Under the coordination of the biologist Marcos Cesar de Oliveira Santos (email: sotalia@gmail.com), Dr. in Ecology, systematic studies on whale and dolphin strandings have been developed since 1995. Other studies have emphasized resident dolphins from the Cananéia estuarine region. The results from this Project have been presented and praised at International Conferences (see publications).
Day after day, new discoveries bring more challenges to the Projeto Atlantis scientific crew and reasons to continue working on cetacean research and conservation.
